Portland Stops Pike's Hit Streak
Portland Stops Pike's Hit Streak
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010: It was the best of both worlds for the Portland Gladiators today at Forbes Field as they defeated the Las Vegas Expos 3-0 and also ended Lip Pike's 24-game hitting streak. The 30-year-old Las Vegas right fielder failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Lip, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Gladiators skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Pike frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."

So far this season Pike is batting .395 with 8 home runs.
