 | Beckwith on Fire: 5-7 for St. Louis Sunday, September 26th, 2010: 5 hits in 7 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day and when it does, it's exciting. Today John Beckwith of the St. Louis Browns had a sensational 5-7 game against Wallyworld at Atlanta-Fulton Cty Stdm. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark, but it didn't pay off in a victory. The Wizards took the game 9-8. In the postgame press conference Beckwith joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, Skip?" His manager retorted half-smilingly, "Only if we win the game, son... only if we win the ballgame. That's what they pay us to do, you know." J. Beckwith singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th and grounded out in the 14th. So far in 2010 Beckwith has hit .257 with 18 home runs and 81 RBIs. He has played in 148 games and scored 95 times. |
