National League Player of the Week: 10-3
Texas catcher Josh Gibson had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Josh pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .393 with 2 HR and 9 RBI while slugging .750. Gibson has hit for a .296 average this season. He has 45 extra base hits along with 262 total bases, resulting in a .434 slugging percentage.

National League Batter of the Month: September
The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Cleveland's Norm Cash this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .350 with 26 RBI and slugged .570 in 100 at bats. His season features a batting average of .306 (167 hits in 545 AB), 25 doubles, 6 triples and 23 bombs. Cash collected 105 RBI and 74 runs as well. Doc has pitched one shutout and 8 complete games. He's 3rd in the National League in ERA and 7th in wins!

National League Pitcher of the Month: September
Doc White couldn't have pitched much better than he did in September, and the National League thought so as well, naming the lefty Pitcher of the Month. His ERA of just 0.71 helped him to a 5-2 record in September. He worked 50.2 innings, striking out 26 hitters while walking 8. Doc pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 2.48 helped him to a 16-9 record this year. He struck out 76 and walked 36 in 207 innings.

Jackhammers 5, Amazin' Orangemen 2
GALVESTON -- Carl Mays pitched 3-hit ball for 8 innings, and Jimtown downed Galveston 5-2, to win their series. Pete Rose had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Lave Cross had 2 hits and scored 2 runs to lead the Jackhammers.
Geodes 1, Padres 0 (10)
OROVILLE -- The curse of Kirk Gibson once again came back to haunt Dennis Eckersley. This time it was Ted Kluszewski who applied the death blow. Leading off the top of the 10th inning, "Big Klu" hit a sinker high and deep into the seats in right-centerfield, giving Zzyzx the win, and the series, over the Padres. Carl Hubbell allowed Oroville only two singles in 7 innings, and Charlie Buffington had allowed the Geodes only 3 singles in 8 innings.

Amazin' Orangemen 6, Jackhammers 7
JIMTOWN -- Pinch-hitter Pedro Guerrero (1) and Gabby Hartnett (3) hit back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the 8th, and Jimtown survived a 9th inning Galveston rally to get the win over the Orangemen, and tie their series at 2-2. Tommy Henrich had 3 hits and Heinie Reitz drove in 3 runs for the Jackhammers. Mickey Mantle had 4 hits, and Carl Furillo (2) hit a 2-run homerun for Galveston.
Padres 7, Geodes 1
ZZYZX -- George Wright was 5-for-5 and drove in 2 runs, Babe Phelps had 3 hits and Jimmie Foxx drove in 2 runs as Oroville stayed alive with a 7-1 win over Zzyzx. This series is tied at 2-2.

JIMTOWN -- Wade Boggs (1), Gus Mancuso (1) and Carl Furillo (1) all hit homeruns in the Galveston win over Jimtown. Pete Rose (1) and Gabby Hartnett (2) hit homeruns for the Jackhammers. Galveston leads the series 2-1.
Padres 4, Geodes 1
ZZYZX -- Jack Chedbro pitched a 4-hitter, Ross Barnes had 4 hits and 3 RBIs, and Jimmie Foxx and Carney Lansford had 3 hits apiece, as Oroville downed Zzyzx. The Geodes lead the leries 2-1.

OROVILLE -- Johnny Blanchard (1) homered and drove in 2 runs to lead Zzyzx to their win over Oroville. The Geodes lead the series 2-0.

OROVILLE -- Carl Hubbell (1-0) pitched a 2-hitter for 7 innings, and Milt Stock drove in both Zzyzx runs with a 7th inning, 2-out, triple to give the Geodes the first game of their playoff series with Oroville.

FRAMINGHAM -- Framingham rallied in the bottom of the 8th, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks, and beat College View 3-1, to win their series and advance the the ALCS.
Pelicans 3, Green Acres 1 (10)
CABRINI -- Florida scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th and beat Cabrini 3-1. Tony Lazzeri (1) homered in the 2nd inning for the Pelicans. Roberto Clemente drove in the Green Acres run in the first inning.

COLLEGE VIEW -- With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Cy Seymour hit a high flyball to leftfield, scoring Doug Decinces from third, and giving College View the edge over Framingham. Seymour drove in 3 runs for the Thunder. Earl Brucker had 3 hits and 2 RBIs for the Rug Rats. This series goes to a fifth game tomorrow.
Green Acres 1, Pelicans 0
FLORIDA -- Tommy Bond pitched a 1-hitter, and Paul O'Neill hit a 4th inning homerun (1), as Cabrini tied their series with a 1-0 win over Florida. Jack Fournier's one-out double in the first inning was the lone hit for the Pelicans, as Bond faced one batter over the minimum.

American League Batter of the Month: September
It's the 1st time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Woodlands' first baseman Rudy York. Rudy went 25 for 76 (.329), while hitting 8 HR and collecting 26 RBI. York has walked 40 times this year and posts a .352 OBP. While batting .304, 159 for 523, he has driven in 106 runs. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns!

American League Pitcher of the Month: September
The best month of September in the American League certainly had Florida's right-hander Bill Doak, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He struck out 17 hitters in his 4 starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 17 innings. His ERA in September was 0.28. Bill pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .221 against Bill this season. While posting an ERA of 2.11 he went 7-2 in 12 starts, fanning 39 and walking 21 hitters. He has 3 complete games and 2 shutouts.
