The American League recipient this year is Calcutta's 33-year-old shortstop Luke Appling, who hit .397 over 159 games. Included in this accomplishment were 235 hits in 592 at-bats, 3 home runs, 99 runs batted in and 87 runs scored. Appling spoke humbly to reporters about the award.
