| Waner: Big Hit in the National League Monday, September 27th, 2010: No single hit brought Paul Waner Player of the Week honors -- the Lafayette Shoe Salesmen right fielder corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said Waner. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too agressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. Waner stroked 18 hits in 29 at-bats while cranking out 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
So far this season, Waner has recorded a .400 batting average with 220 hits, 5 home runs, 69 RBIs, 74 runs scored and a .429 OBP. | |
