| AL Batting Title Goes to Calcutta's Appling Wednesday, September 29th, 2010: One of the more prestigious postseason awards is presented to the league batting champion. The American League recipient this year is Calcutta's 33-year-old shortstop Luke Appling, who hit .397 over 159 games. Included in this accomplishment were 235 hits in 592 at-bats, 3 home runs, 99 runs batted in and 87 runs scored. Appling spoke humbly to reporters about the award. "It's such a difficult thing to do," he explained, "There are a lot of great hitters in this league and to outhit them all is very special." | |
